Legendary Luchador Tinieblas Jr. Featured in comic book that brings back the classic lucha libre horror-adventure genre of 1950s-70s.
For Immediate Release:
(NY) (October 4-2018)–Masked Republic announces today the release of The Luchaverse: Tinieblas Jr.
Co-Creator and Editor Ivan Plaza noted, “We are thrilled to be able to bring back the extremely popular horror and action genre of the classic lucha films, in which Tinieblas Jr.’s father starred, and have the long legacy continue in our brand new story world. We have also updated things for the modern era as not only will our monster-hunting luchador have his father’s long time Mayan elf companion Alushe at his side, but a brand new second-in-command, Ramona, who will put her cryptozoological knowledge and secret training to the test.”
****Stars of the new comic book series, Tinieblas Jr. and Alushe, will be at this year’s NYCC 2018 on Saturday, October 6 10:30 AM and available throughout the day at the Masked Republic booth (#137) for copy signings and fan greetings.
Tinieblas Jr. is the newest iconic luchador to join Masked Republic and Chido Comics’ Luchaverse™. His father, the legendary elder Tineiblas, starred in nearly a dozen Mexican films alongside El Santo, Blue Demon and Mil Mascaras (Los Campeones de Justiceros, Santo Contra Las Momias de Guanajuato) and was the first luchador, after El Santo, to be featured in a comic book series. Now, his son, who wrestles in front of thousands of fans in main event matches throughout Mexico and the U.S. every week, is set to follow in his footsteps.
The series was co-created and is executive produced by Masked Republic’s Kevin Kleinrock and Ruben Zamora who have produced live and televised lucha libre events for over two decades and who represent the stars of the series for their licensing and IP rights. The company is currently focused on developing content across all media and platforms that hits the severely underrepresented Latinx audience while maintaining general market mass appeal.
“With The Masked Republic Luchaverse we have an opportunity to bring globally recognized stars into a brand new and original story world with mass appeal crossing demographics and genres.” Kleinrock said. “Within The Luchaverse, we have action-adventure, fantasy, horror and science fiction all represented across our five initial series. With fully original IP characters spinning out of each series as they continue, The Luchaverse is expansive and we look forward to developing the series in comic book form and across the transmedia landscape.”
The Luchaverse, Chido Comics and Masked Republic plan to recapture and revitalize a bygone era where such legends of lucha libre embraced the silver screen in over 100 epic adventures and enthralled people of all ages in a series of dynamic and thrilling comic books.
The Luchaverse: Tinieblas Jr. is written by Marco Lopez (Puerto Rico Strong, Terminal Anthology) and Ivan Plaza (Lucha Underground, Joey Ryan Big in Japan) with art by Diego Simone and lettering by Micah Meyers.

About The Luchaverse:
The Masked Republic Luchaverse is the first ever shared comic book universe featuring globally recognized stars of lucha libre in an epic new story world. Individual series, each with their own genre and art teams, provide a vast and content rich world while impending crossover events will create a shared universe among these luchadores creating a world closer to Marvel or DC’s cinematic universes than lucha libre has ever seen before.
Initial materials for The Luchaverse read “A dormant and mysterious power that long ago held the fate of our planet Earth has now been released. Our legends will be put to the test, as Chido Comics and Masked Republic bring back the glory and tradition of famous lucha libre stars in comic books taking on epic and unprecedented events based in our real world mixed with adventure, fantasy and science fiction!”
Launching this past July at San Diego Comic Con to both fan and critical acclaim, the first Luchaverse bool stars the most iconic luchador on the planet, former WWE World Champion Rey Mysterio. Rolling Stone featured the title in its “25 Best Things We Saw at San Diego Comic Con 2018” story while both wrestling industry and mainstream publications including Publishers Weekly and License Global were excited by the book. The second title, released earlier this month at Expo Lucha, in Las Vegas, features the two most seen luchadores in the world today, The Lucha Brothers, Penta Zero M and Rey Fenix who appear weekly on 2 different national TV broadcasts in Mexico (Lucha Libre AAA and CMLL) and 4 in the United States (CMLL, Lucha Underground, Impact Wrestling, Major League Wrestling) as well as on these programs’ global distribution networks.
